Yet among the wreaths at Vito Rizzuto's funeral was one send by the Cotroni family. A bit peculiar if they were waging war with him.

I also find it interesting that Nick Sr was killed by a headshot from a sniper at his own home eating dinner . The exact same way that Rocco Violi was killed? Sending a message to the Rizzuto's perhaps..?

Thanks for reminding me, I hadn't noticed the last post. So Violi did kill a couple of Rizzuto-aligned gangsters after all. But still, it seems just a "normal" reaction aimed to "equalize the losses". I would have honestly expected the Violi family to start a blood feud after so many losses and to try to do the same to the Rizzutos. Instead, we had to wait for DiMaulo and Montagna to do this, but for completely different reasons.

But he did react. After Sciara's murder a close associate of Nick Rizzuto was killed. However, after the murder of his brother Francesco, Violi was isolated and a dead man walking. Everybody around him probably knew the go-ahead was given from New York and there was nothing they could do about it.

The recent discussion about this guy on Gangsterbb reminded me of an old question:
Why do you think Violi never reacted to the killing of his consigliere and his brothers by the Rizzuto group? I mean, all books describe him as a "tough guy", yet he let the people close to him being butchered just like that and didn't try to take revenge in any way before being killed himself. Why is that? Was he really a spineless guy and "tough" only in physical appearance? Why no reaction at all to the death of his BROTHERS?
