Living in Detroit.... The mafia (specifically giacaolones) is talked about frequently. And I'm in Detroit proper where myself and my wife are literally the only white ppl around till you hit hamtramack.

And also the Bommaritos (who are said to run the dope) with the biker gangs are all known.

Detroit is not like anywhere else. As in, everything outside of the actual city is where it's all active. But in the Detroit proper, it's talked about and even looked up upon.

Thanks to Al Profit there is tons of hood documentary.

But also... I really believe Detroit is a key place.
In my "favorite Black dealer" thread - I noticed most of the ppl mentioned we're either in NYC or Detroit... And I do believe that the mafia is still probably the middle man of both groups. As well as the various biker crews which includes The Outlaws MC.

Sooo... All that... And once again, several rap songs making few names known.... Yadda yadda yadda ...

I personally believe there's still a mafia Family, but much more drug and gambling only type mafia

Yes. Crews from the NY families, the Decavalcante family, and Philadelphia's North Jersey crew all operate in the same general area.

Just for the hell of it, I'd invite anyone to come up with actual examples of actual working connections involving families outside the Northeast over the past 20 years.

In the early 2000s, one Bonanno soldier ran a strip club in Chicago and that may have had Outfit involement. Another Bonanno soldier was involved in the Outfit-connected Crazy Horse Too strip club in Vegas. I can't think of anything involving Detroit.

Buffalo was the anomaly that proved the status quo.

John Gotti definitely at least knew of Anthony Giacalone. Some of his prison tapes has him talking about Giacalone in I think the late nineties. I always assumed that came from Cutler for a time giving Giacalone legal help during the whole Gamtax case. So threw Cutler it wouldn't surprise me if Jackie Giacalone may be acquainted with some New York Gambinos. And the Todaros worked with the Detroit Family in the 80s and definitely visited there, so Todaro Jr. would definitely know some of the Detroit guys. And Todaro knows the New York guys.

Last time I spoke to Scott Burnstein about it, he stated that while the Giacalones have taken over, their children are legitimate whereas the Toccos children are staying involved. The Judge who sentenced Jack Tocco to time served for being an LCN boss in 1995 has a son who spends time with Tocco's son in Florida.

Detroit has some strong Terrasini/Alcamo bloodlines, similar to Rockford's Aragonese and Elizabeth's Riberese.

I stand corrected. He did say Corrado. But there was also a "Johnny Bananas" with DiFronzo's photo blurred in one of his videos.
I don't think I ever seen that one. Maybe it was it Super Bowl Stromboli?

The Detroit Mafia or what remains of it is more a gambling ring that a mob family and was confinated in the last white zones in the city, the Outfit are more active and Chicago wasn't Detroit.

In short no one knows how much contact they have if any at all. Prison is one of the main ways mafiosi forge relationships with guys from other cities so it's definitely possible there is some contact between certain guys but no one knows. I'm sure most people were surprised to find out that Todaro Jr was able to reach out to 3 NY bosses to make them aware of an administrative change he made so taking that into consideration I don't think it would be as big of a surprise to find out there was still some contact between NY and Detroit.

You can certainly say there isn't as much contact today as there was in the past but anything beyond that is speculation.
