[A few months after the June 1987 murders of Enrico and Vincent Carini], Casso, a psychopath who eventually admitted roles in 37 murders, ordered Smith to whack Carmine Varriale, a Luchese associate against whom Casso had some kind of a grudge, sources said.
On Friday, Sept. 3, Smith got word that Varriale, 31, was a few blocks from his Bath Beach, Brooklyn home. He, along with his father, Frank Sr. and his cousin Michael Cilone, caught up to Varriale in front of the Bath Ave. Dry Cleaning and Tailoring Shop at 1508 Bath Ave., and shot him dead, according to court papers and law enforcement sources.
Bonanno associate Frank Santora, 51, who had just gotten out of prison after a six year stint for a $12 million swindle of legendary Sheepshead Bay restaurateur Frederick Lundy, was walking with Varriale and also killed.

[Joseph Testa and Anthony Senter] were part of a hit team in the 1987 double murder for which Frank Smith is awaiting trial, according to FBI reports obtained by Gang Land.

Testa and Senter were poised on one end of a block as Smith waited on the other for intended victim, Luchese mobster Carmine Varriale, to leave a Bath Beach social club near Smith's home, according to an FBI interview of turncoat Luchese gangster Frank Gioia Jr.
When Varriale and associate Frank Santora "exited the club they came down the block towards Smith (and) Smith began shooting Varriale and when he did Santora started towards him so he killed Santora as well," said Gioia, who said Smith and Zappola told him about the hit.

Carini Brothers suspect in Bulldogs murder/Torture, plus prior beef with Carmine, Joel Waverly Cacase deflected blame on Carmine for the Carini brothers murder, Carmine was murdered for retaliation for the Carini Brothers.
Joe Waverly is serving a sentence for pleading Guilty to Murders one of the Murders is for ordering the Murder of Carmine Varriale.

I can’t remember who committed the hit, or if the identities are even known, but it was Colombo capo Joel Cacace that ordered the murders, with approval from Anthony Casso IIRC.

I think it was Cacace being cagey as shit, but I thought I read that story from Frank Smith.
