the very extensive ESPN article didnt allude to or really mention any serious, direct mob links, but it did mention a “Gambino crew from Canarsie” that was already under investigation who had people/bookmakers that figured out what was going on, and benefitted by trailing the “Donaghy Bets.” Do I have this right?
I’m guessing some bets were passing through one of their books or their operation and they either connected the dots, or pressed the bettors to see what was going on. if you start to bet out of habit suddenly and start winning, especially winning big, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for the bookie to reach out and start asking questions. if this is the case, it isnt unreasonable to think one of these Canarsie guys leaned on the bettor threatening harm, or worse, if they didnt give up the whole jig
