Bill's chart has him immigrating in 1914 instead of 1921, which is the correct date, so he may have conflated info with a different Pasquale Matranga. He testified that he arrived in 1921, which I confirmed with the passenger manifest. I looked through his testimony in the Kefauver hearing as well as the dealer and FBN Agent Charles Siragusa and there was no mention of a connection to Scalise. As far as I know he's not related to the NO Matrangas unless it's a distant relationship. The NO Matrangas came from Ustica, their father Salvatore came from Monreale, and his grandfather from Piana dei Greci (IIRC).

This is what he has in one section:
_____________________________________________
MATRANGA-PASQUALE 1887 Monreale, Sicily / USA 1914.

Relations – Francesco, Giacomo, Joseph + Salvatore Scalici [in-laws].

From the old Stoppaglieri stronghold of Monreale, he first tried to enter America as a stowaway in 1913. Re-entered in 1914, and lived in Manhattan for some years before moving to Brooklyn. His Father’s name was Carlo, which makes me wonder if he was the old New Orleans Capo, also from Monreale. Started as a baker [1930 Census], then as an Olive Oil and Cheese merchant. Married into the Scalici family, and became a close associate of Frank Scalici. Naturalized in 1928. At one point owned a Construction company in New Jersey. In 1948 took a trip to Italy, believed to have delivered a car to Charles [Lucky] Luciano. Listed in the 1950 FBN Report. Date of death unknown.
_____________________________________________

The FBN Mafia book has a birth date of Nov 1, 1887, which must be a typo. The SSDI date matches the census and immigration records, so he was definitely born in 1897. It does have his mother's name as Carmela Blandino, which makes me wonder if he's related to the Los Angeles Matrangas, despite them being from Piana. It doesn't mention a relationship to Frank Scalise. Most of the people that he knew according to his testimony were Luciano people, including Joe Adonis. The only non-Luciano person noted is Joe Profaci.

His wife Providenza was naturalized in 1928 and gave her maiden name as Di Nicola, not Scalise. It notes that they married in 1919 in Monreale and that he arrived in Boston in 1921.

What’s the source for Landi specifically being in the Frasca crew? Not saying it’s wrong. But interesting that a guy living up in the NE Bx would be with a Brooklyn-based crew. Did he have any familial or social connections in BK?

Landi lived in the Williamsbridge neighborhood, which used to have an Italian population. As a side note, I’m aware that Williamsbridge, Wakefield, Eastchester, etc had a mob presence back in the day, but I’m not very familiar with what guys from which families lived in those sections.

Landi is a common surname in Campania, but most prevalent in Salerno province. They could be from Napoli proper, though of course many Campanians in the US simply put “Naples” as their origin even when they were from one of the provinces.

An informant, I think it might be Scarpa, identified a 'Big Larry' as under Cosmo Frasca. Info was provided in February 1963.

Looking at LCN Bios latest post on Genovese family deaths, here are some changes:

Dead:

- Pietro Dolce (Capodecina) (4.13.1961)
- Joseph 'Ju Ju' Perrone (Soldier) (11.12.1963)

To be added:

- Charles Carlo (Former Capodecina?) (7.6.1963)
- Felice 'Phil' Corbisiero (Soldier) (10.6.1966)
- Frank 'Costello' Viscone (Soldier) (12.20.1966)
- Michael 'Big Mike' Giannino (Soldier) (8.19.1966)
- John Riccardi (Soldier) (11.10.1967)
- Salvatore 'Sammy' Chillemi (Soldier) (7.22.1968)
- Rosario 'Don Zaza' DiMaggio (Soldier) (1.1969)
- Joseph 'Jay Jay' Schiavone (Soldier) (6.10.1969)
- Anthony 'Little Georgie' Riccardi (Soldier) (1.13.1974)
- Alfred 'Iggy Moe' Guido (Soldier) (8.14.1974)

Possible members:

Vito Campo (8.21.1971)
James 'Sham' Capone (8.17.1964)
Paul Fraccacreta (10.5.1974)

——————————-

Corbisiero was Generoso Del Duca’s BIL.

Viscone was in Bridgeport, CT.

Giannino looks to have been Mike Gininno, living on Arthur Ave in the Bronx.

Chillemi and DiMaggio were with Altomari, they’re mentioned in D’Arco’s biography.

Schiavone and Fraccacreta were associated with Anthony Strollo; likely in the Eboli crew.

Guido was a Lower East Side drug guy; likely with DeFeo.

Campo had arrests with Generosa; likely in his crew.

Capone had been Frankie Yale’s bodyguard

The Cusimano brothers were difinitely Genovese members, under Frasca. They were not Gambino members. Scarpa mistook Big Larry Landi for Big Larry Pisani. Pisani under Frasca. Landi was not made to my knowledge, at least not at that time.
There you have it, never printed before.

These are the guys I have in my 1963 list as Capidecina:

1. Eugene 'Gene' Catena (59y)
2. Angelo 'Gyp' DeCarlo (62y)
3. Ruggiero 'Richie The Boot' Boiardo (73y)
4. Angelo 'Don Angelo' Fiore (79y)
5. Vincenzo 'Jimmy Alto' Altomari (69y)
6. Pasquale 'Patsy' Del Duca (73y)
7. Harry Lanza (55y)
8. James 'Jimmy' Angellino (58y)
9. Alfred 'Poagy' Toriello (71y) (highly likely in my opinion, possibly even admin?)
10. Francesco Celano (67y)
11. Mike 'Trigger Mike' Coppola (63y)
12. Thomas 'Tommy' Eboli (52y)
13. Salvatore 'Skinny Sal' Celambrino (60y)
14. Vincenzo 'Jimmy Dimino' Generoso (68y)
15. Peter 'Little Pete' DeFeo (61y)
17. Rocco 'The Old Man' Pellegrino (74y)
18. Antonio 'Tony The Sheik' Carillo (61y)
19. Frank 'Funzi' Tieri (59y)
20. Thomas 'Tommy Palmer' Greco (68y)
21. Vincent 'Jimmy Blue Eyes' Alo (59y)
22. Cosmo Frasca (56y)
23. Salvatore Cufari (62y)

Pellegrino had a Bronx-Westchester Group while Mogavero's later on was based in Manhattan. Thus, I believe Mogavero was acting for Pellegrino, but that he received Altomari's crew and part of the Pellegrino Crew.

Poagy Toriello is super interesting. Wasn't he in the running to be acting boss in the mid 1950s?

Antonio Appierto was also listed by JD as a soldier in his death list.

Appierto is a super interesting guy. Informant on Appierto stated:

"Antonio Appierto, is another powerful man in the underworld, having not received publicity. Appierto is an old line racketeer and controls, along with GENOVESE (Vito) and Del Duca, a great number of gambling enterprises, including Italian lotteries and numbers operations. He now also has money invested in a great number of legitimate enterprises."

Other interesting info is that Patsy Del Duca was "extremely wealthy and is also highly regarded by the underworld", and that "(Patsy) formerly held a high position in the rackets, but is now completely retired".
