Anthony J. Scibelli associate of Genovese crime family’s Springfield faction pleads guilty to extortion charge

Post by Nick Prango »

An associate of the Genovese crime family’s Springfield faction pleaded guilty to extortion charge on Tuesday. 52-year-old Anthony J. Scibelli was indicted in July 2019 and is scheduled for sentencing on September 3.

In 2017, Scibelli provided a $5,000 loan to an individual, who made monthly payments of $1,300 until June 2019. Beginning in May 2019, Scibelli used threats as he attempted to collect on that line of credit. Specifically, on June 19, 2019, he threatened and beat the debtor’s head and body for failing to make the monthly $1,300 payment. During the beating, he threatened that the man must have all the money “on the first,” referring to the 1st of the month.

The charging statute provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Acting United States Attorney Nathaniel R. Mendell; Joseph R. Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Office; and Colonel Christopher Mason, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Neil Desroches of Mendell’s Springfield Branch Office and Trial Attorney Marianne Shelvey of the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division’s Organized Crime and Gang Section are prosecuting the case.

Arilotta said on the MBA and Button Man show that when he first really started putting money out onto the street with his crew in Springfield, they would charge 5, 6, 7 points. He said sometimes they even charged 10. He said they were young and didn’t know what they were doing.

Holy shit, talk about running the guy to the fbi yourself with that interest... insane... also, the borrower must have been brain dead .. he paid more in interest in 4 months than the principle of the loan he received .. strange how you would need $5k that badly when you can come up with the $1,300 vig each month. Embarrassing on both sides.

The “victim” caught him on tape saying he was collecting on the loan for “Albert” calvanese obviously...

So true!this stuff makes you hate these guys...violence and prison for a $5k loan that was paid back in full in 4 months...where do these guys plan to get their customers going forward? Haha..I think the answer is that they have no plan and this is what the crumbs of the life leftover look like...

In the article they said the customer was paying that for 2 fucking years!! He borrowed $5k and was paying $325 a week, $1,300 a month, like you said calvanese who supposedly put the loan out , if the guy paid it for 2 years that means he paid back $31,200... ok let’s say he missed 3 months even.. that means calvanese still profited $22,300 off this fucking poor bastard.. now call me crazy but I think making 20 grand profit off a 5k loan is pretty good.. wouldn’t you at that point just dead the loan at that point?? Instead of sending someone to commit violence to try and collect it and send this guy running to the feds?? I’m not a genius but that sounds like a pretty good exit plan, rather than what they decided to do... and one of the threats happened at the mount Carmel social club, basically the springfields hangout spot.. so the guy who borrowed the money was probably friendly with some of these guys.. they were fucking morons for bringing this heat, but at the same time I don’t consider any shy customer a victim, if you’re dumb enough to agree to the terms of these loans then you really can’t blame anyone but yourself... so I despise when these guys run to law enforcement and play the victim.. you would have to be so stupid to agree to the loan in the first place... but like I said it was also managed horribly on the shylocks side... this is where the “politician” role comes in that Penissi speaks of.. it should have never got to this point.. but obviously these guys greed is just on another level..

I feel like you really have to be careful when it comes to squeezing a guy too hard, or pushing him to his limit.. I mean what did they think this guy was going to end up doing?? Was it really worth the law enforcement scrutiny?? Hell no... you can’t deal with every situation with an iron fist, or this is going to be the outcome most of the time these days..

Sounds like a knuckle dragger. Is he involved with any sophisticated rackets?
Glick told author Nicholas Pileggi that he expected to meet a banker-type individual, but instead, he found Alvin Baron to be a gruff, tough-talking cigar-chomping Teamster who greeted him with, “What the fuck do you want?”

Obviously not , I mean he was doing collections for Albert calvanese.... so I would assume that was the extent of whatever he was doing... besides maybe borrowing money from Albert to loan out, but with how many points were already on the money it doesn’t seem likely. Lol.
