an interesting observation about the german steel production...despite the slight decline in production from '43 to '44, they were able to keep things rolling pretty well all things considering as far as production was concerned. the quality on the other hand definitely took a sharp dive from 1944 onward. case in point, there were numerous reports of the glacis plates on both the panthers and king tigers being very brittle and cracking when hit with armor piercing shells that otherwise would have failed to penetrate resulting in a sizeable # of mobility kills at a time german tank units on the eastern front could hardly sustain them.

The role of Lend Lease on the Soviet Unions war effort. It is clear that without it they would have fallen apart by 1942/3.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From March 1941-October 1945

the U.S. provided the SU with 15,000 aircraft (nearly 10,000 of them fighter planes), 7,000 tanks, 350,000 tons of explosives, 51,000 jeeps, 375,000 trucks, 2,000 locomotives, 11,000 rail wagons, 3 million tons of gasoline, 35,000 radio sets, 380,000 field telephones, a million miles of signal wire and 15 million pairs of boots. Britain contributed another 5,000 tanks and 7,000 aircraft. 5,000,000 tons of Food was also provided.

The US also provided the following % of the supplies used by the Soviet Union during the war.

80% of all canned meat
92% of all locomotives, rail stock, and rail material
57% of all Aviation Fuel
53% of all Explosives
74% of all Truck Transport
88% of all Radio Equipment
75% of all Copper
56% of all Aluminum
60+% of all Vehicle Fuel
74% of all Vehicle Tires
12% of all Armoured Vehicles (Tanks, Tank Destroyers, SP Guns and Half-tracks)
