Soviet Union Casualties 1939-1945

Post by Pogo The Clown » Sat Mar 18, 2017 12:46 pm

Here is probably the most accurate account of the casualties suffered by the Soviet Union from 1939-1945. The real number will probably never be known considering the disorganized state of Soviet record keeping both during the war (especially during the fighting in 1941 and early 1942) and their efforts afterwards to downplay their losses. It is also hard to figure out the losses for 1941 since so many conscripts, reservists and militia were killed or captured before they were officially entered into the unit strengths so were subsequently counted as civilian losses. Consequently the military losses for 1941 would be higher than listed here.

As you can see this period was a total bloodletting for the Soviet Union.

those numbers seem like video game numbers, not real life. Those Russian soldiers must have felt its just a matter of time before I die.
