Re: Membership Counts, 1993
Very interesting. Nothing stands out as completely unexpected. Appears the Genovese family still hadn't filled all those empty slots Gotti mentioned to Chin. And the Bonannos were still in the gutter. A few families a little bigger or smaller than expected.
For the record, the national membership is around 800 now.

Re: Membership Counts, 1993
It should also be noted that the numbers may be undercounted due to some members being unidentified. I would think that a family as secretive as the Genovese would have less accurate identifications than other families.Wiseguy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:58 pm Very interesting. Also, was Rochester ever identified by the Commission as a separate family? Or were they just an offshoot of Buffalo with some rogue members attempting to break away? It appears they are recognized as an independent family here but I'm not sure if this was information that was later refuted.
Re: Membership Counts, 1993
I think I recall Capeci saying they never technically got Commission approval but they broke off anyway and functioned as their own family. It seems the feds considered them a separate organization.Snakes wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 4:01 pm Also, was Rochester ever identified by the Commission as a separate family? Re: Membership Counts, 1993
Other than the Forum's latest Pittsburgh Troll I maybe the only one to ask about Pittsburgh's 11+2.
Only because I hate to assume, does this June 1993 FBI report only include members that were alive in 1993?

Re: Membership Counts, 1993
Wow Philly was stronger than I thought , Very close to 3 NY families in numbers, 86 made guys in 1993 , after a few wars, I always thought 50-60 tops in 93
Re: Membership Counts, 1993
The incarcerated numbers are included in the membership estimates, so they had 59 total members with 27 incarcerated, leaving 32 on the streets (but not necessarily still active).joeycigars wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 4:28 pm Wow Philly was stronger than I thought , Very close to 3 NY families in numbers, 86 made guys in 1993 , after a few wars, I always thought 50-60 tops in 93
Re: Membership Counts, 1993
Yeah, membership shot up during the Scarfo years but a lot of guys went to prison afterward.Snakes wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 4:35 pmThe incarcerated numbers are included in the membership estimates, so they had 59 total members with 27 incarcerated, leaving 32 on the streets (but not necessarily still active).joeycigars wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 4:28 pm Wow Philly was stronger than I thought , Very close to 3 NY families in numbers, 86 made guys in 1993 , after a few wars, I always thought 50-60 tops in 93

Re: Membership Counts, 1993
Genovese numbers make sense. They made a lot of guys in the 90s and early 2000s due to not filling open slots in the 80s and that would put them level or above the Gambinos. With the Bonannos they must have made like 60+ guys during Massino's reign.
