Re: Who was the longest-serving Capo?
There is little reliable data, but according to my estimates, these captains hold the record for longest tenure. Rocco Pellegrino (Genovese Family) - 1920s?/1931-mid 1970s, ~40-50 years; Giuseppe Traina (Gambino family) - 1900s?-1912?, 1931?-early 1970s, ~45 years old; Ruggiero Boiardo (Genovese fa...

Who was the longest-serving Capo?
I was wondering who served as capo for the longest amount of time. In the NYC area, I would guess Rocco Pellegrino or Joe Traina . Both of them were important figures fairly early on; even if we give them a starting point of 1931, they would have been captains for well over 40-years. I think someone...

Re: Bonanno - Newark Connections ?
Gerlando Sciascia Aka George From Canada moved from Montreal to Newark in 1961. He lived and worked there for a brief period before settling in the Bronx. This is according to “The Sixth Family.” Shiascia immigrated to the US in 1958, but then quickly headed up to Montreal with the Rizzutos. He ret...

Re: Bonanno - Newark Connections ?
Nice! It adds to the idea that Monaco was killed because of his loyalty to Maranzano but I wish we had someone who could clarify. Valachi believed Badami was part of Maranzano's conspiracy to keep killing rival bosses after the war but why he was spared and Monaco killed, then much later Monaco's b...

Re: What do We Know about the Newark Family?
The surname Calabrese seemed familiar to me. Nicolo's Schiro's business partner (or employee?) in his Real Estate business was named Vincent John Calabrese. Vincent Calabrese was also the witness on Schiro's 1923 passport application. However, I checked and it turned out to be just a coincidence. V...

He was close to Joe Bonanno. He was a member of his inner circle known as the Boys of the First Day and served as an usher at his wedding. The two were arrested while picking up guns and Charlie told the police he would take them to the source but took the cops on a wild-goose chase instead. Other t...

On May 15 1928, an alcohol seller was killed at 818 Milton Ave. Identified as “Joseph Cavarith” of 733 North LaSalle St., his car was registered to Emmanuel Cammarata (470 W Chicago Ave). Frank Moretti (2015 Fremont St) was arrested. https://theblackhand.club/forum/ext/dmzx/imageupload/files/ab7de8b...

He was born in 1921, even though he wasn’t really on lists from the ‘60s, I’d speculate that he would have been made in the late 50s rather than the 70s.

Very late response, but it seems that according to the FBN Sam Maugeri was born December 16, 1897 in Catania and not September 13, 1892 in San Giorgio Morgeto. Was the FBN wrong? https://theblackhand.club/forum/ext/dmzx/imageupload/files/9266a5a9fb72dd9ed0481f0b0269a67a.png (https://www.findagrave....

Looking back, I don’t get how/why Schiavo landed with the Lucchese family. Aside from his background, a Castellammarese living in Brooklyn, he seems to have started out with Bonanno adjacent people. https://theblackhand.club/forum/ext/dmzx/imageupload/files/c31121a110c0dde6301d00480dcfa3d8.jpeg The ...

The Joseph Canelle mentioned was likely Joseph Cannella. Here’s a better look at Joseph Cannella His naturalization was witnessed by Benjamin Grippi & Antonio Galati On Oct 11 1926, he was arrested at a liquor still with Mauro Cossentino & Antonio Galati (https://www.newspapers.com/newspage...
