Re: Bonanno - Newark Connections ?

Sorry if this is the wrong spot to ask. But was there a Newark family and Decavalcante family operating in New Jersey before the 60s? Or did the Newark family essentially become the Decavs when they got disbanded. I started to read some of "what do we know about the Newark family" thread ...

Re: Joseph Campanella testimony notes - November 15th, 2004

He was out in the public for a bit many years ago promoting a program called "Out of the Life" for ex-wiseguys. I'd be interested in what he's up to now. I believe the other Families didn't recognize Persico as official boss for a time after the war. DiLeonardo said Allie Persico held a me...

Re: Motorfab's Blog: Une Histoire de Crime Organisé

Also, just to put it into a timeline, it may have been 1962 when Joe Ida requested to form a decina in Calabria. Bruno visited Ida during his trip to Italy that year and he was recalling Ida's request on a wiretap afterward, so I suspect that visit is when Ida made the request. It had to be sometime...

Re: Motorfab's Blog: Une Histoire de Crime Organisé

Yep, I know the document you mean. I will find it when I have time but it was Angelo Bruno recorded saying that Ida wanted to create a decina of the Philadelphia Family in Calabria as he had some young men there he wanted to recruit. However Bruno said Ida would have to get permission from the Sici...

Re: Bonanno - Newark Connections ?

Yeah, Camporeale has always had strong ties to San Cipirello / San Giuseppe Jato so there could be something there with Todaro. The Scardinos were connected to Antonino Governale when they arrived to NYC, Governale being early US patriarch of the Schiro-Orlando clan and someone we suspect of being a...

Re: Giuseppe Masseria's Autopsy

Yeah Masseria was slightly chubby and had a round face but he's been mythologized as Fat Bastard. Despite Bonanno insisting Masseria was going to keep getting "crazier and crazier and fatter and fatter" and detailing his eating habits (how do you know, JB?), someone pointed out that Maranz...

Re: Bonanno - Newark Connections ?

It's the same Cipolla as the New Orleans one -- he was also the brother-in-law of LA boss Vito DiGiorgio from adjacent Borgetto and they spent time in NO together. There's no confirmation of Cipolla's Bonanno membership but it's highly probable. Lived in Williamsburg where his paesani were important...

Re: The Genovese & Eastern Palermo Province

Tony found a strong cadidate for Salvatore DeMarco that points to the Genovese Family DeMarcos coming from Cefalu and Collesano. If that's them, Collesano shows up yet again this time with a slightly older guy than the ones mentioned in this thread. Cefalu is of course part of this geography as well...

Re: Frank Cali shot dead

I still remember logging on here that night and on the main page where it says "Last Post" next to each sub-forum, I saw "Frank Cali shot dead". Just an unbelievable moment. And yeah, completely underwhelming when we found out who did it and what happened yet oddly fitting for th...

Re: Bonanno Family Lineage Chart

Yeah it seems it would have been short-term. Before he was consigliere there is a report that says Marangello was the senior / top capodecina helping run the Family, basically the street boss, so he was part of the leadership in different capacities for a while.

Re: Bonanno Family Lineage Chart

I've seen an FBI report from after Evola's death (he died late August 1973) that says Marangello had been elevated to consigliere and that the post had been open since DiFilippi died in 1972. The Violi tape about Alfano fits that timeline, that he held it while Evola was alive, but I wonder if it wa...

Re: Bonanno - Newark Connections ?

Bonanno member Nicolo Buttafuoco lived in North Jersey -- he was a paesan of Sciascia and according to one of the Canadian books, Buttafuoco mentored Nick Rizzuto during the period Rizzuto spent in the US. Sciascia also probably would have associated with Angelo Salvo, Nino Busciglio, and that crowd...

Re: Black Hand Forum 10th Anniversary

It is actually going on 12 years. In 2014 is when the forum switched servers. Pogo Is that right? For years I’ve been thinking those ‘Joined on’ dates were legit. Why do the longest tenured members all have different 2014 dates if that’s just when the server switched? I don’t know much about server...

Re: Blog - 'A Sicilan Message'

Good one. The "honorary" and "active" pallbearers speak volumes. The Agrigento connections in Pittston are something I've only become aware of more recently. I knew of Zicari from Siculiana in Endicott but we learned a little while back Jimmy Longo of the Tampa Family was origina...

Re: Bonanno - Newark Connections ?

Nice! It adds to the idea that Monaco was killed because of his loyalty to Maranzano but I wish we had someone who could clarify. Valachi believed Badami was part of Maranzano's conspiracy to keep killing rival bosses after the war but why he was spared and Monaco killed, then much later Monaco's br...
